There’s really no limit to how much fun you’ll have as a member of the Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club.
The club’s 140 members seem to be always on the go, whether it’s hosting speaker programs at the Albemarle Plantation clubhouse or taking road trips to explore Eastern North Carolina’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
But it’s not all fun and games, according to club president Charlene Finamore. “Our primary focus is to provide scholarships to Perquimans County high school senior girls,” she said. “We raised enough money last year to give four $1,000 scholarships, and our goal is to do even better this year.”
The club also holds two fund-raising drives each year – one to give baby supplies to pregnant women in crisis situations, the other to buy school supplies for disadvantaged families.
“We truly believe that joining the Women’s Club when you first come to Albemarle Plantation is the best way to get to know your new neighbors, have fun, learn about the area and make a real contribution to the families outside our gates,” Charlene said.
The club’s mission statement says it all: “The purpose of the Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club is to promote friendship among women and to encourage cultural, benevolent and civic activities of the members in order to improve the general welfare of the greater community.”
The Women’s Club is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and now has almost twice as many members as there were at its founding.
