WHO’S NEW: Pamela and Patrick Morrissey

Pamela and Patrick Morrissey were enjoying a quiet, low-key lifestyle in the mountains of Colorado in the small town of Elizabeth located between Denver and Colorado Springs. From there Patrick managed his home-based shipping company, and Pamela, a stylist, reached out to her clients. But things began to change. With the legalization of marijuana in the state of Colorado, the population in their area began to grow quickly. Traffic along the corridors around and between the big cities became snarled at all times of the day. And a large suburban housing complex was approved for construction not far from their acreage. It was time to move.

When Pamela and Patrick began to think about where they might relocate, they both agreed that the long snow season of Colorado had become tiresome. Tourist season traffic and pro-longed winter temperatures add-ed to their decision to look for property in a warmer, semi-rural location. Pamela especially wanted to enjoy all four seasons of the year and was interested in a lifestyle around the water.

The coast of North Carolina became their target area, with a focus on the communities between Elizabeth City and New Bern. Armed with housing in-formation from Zillow and the help of four realtors, they planned on looking at thirty houses along North Carolina’s coastal plain in four days’ time. The very first house they toured, however, was right here on Meherrin River Drive, and it was love at first sight. The location and home were just what they were looking for.

On move-in day Pamela and Patrick got a crash course in hurricane-season safety as Hurricane Florence was threatening the Carolina coast. Their moving company unexpectedly called them at 9:30 p.m. the night before their scheduled delivery to let them know they had arrived on site. By 10:30 p.m. they had begun unloading their household goods and worked all night to completely unload the truck. Concerned about having an empty truck on the road, the moving company was anxious to get their rig out of the area before the winds reached their predicted gale-force velocity.

Since moving here, Pamela and Patrick have spent quite a bit of time traveling. Patrick took a trip back to Colorado to complete the sale of his trucking business. Both of them traveled to Israel for ten days with their Colorado church family, and they recently returned from Miami where they helped Pamela’s son celebrate his college graduation.

Now, travel completed, they hope to have more time to get settled into their new home with their menagerie of dogs and cats, including Scooter, a blind, three-legged Pomeranian mix who steals everyone’s heart. Two kayaks came with the house, so the Morrisseys have already joined the Osprey Yacht Club and hope to purchase a pontoon boat sometime soon. They have tried their hand at crabbing, plan to take up the sport of fishing, and hope their new membership in the Sports Club will provide them some helpful instruction.

Both Patrick and Pamela expect to continue their work-life while living here. Pamela plans to continue her work as a stylist and in-home consultant, focusing on skin care, jewelry, and clothes. Patrick is interest-ed in becoming part of a business that provides a service to the community and is actively looking for such an opportunity. Both shared how important it is to them to find a new church home, as their faith is an important part of their lives together and in their out-reach to the community.
