The Altamura family credit their daughter Sofia for first discovering Albemarle Plantation. Sofia had been accepted to Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach and the family was hoping to stay together while she commuted to school. Additionally, they always considered moving to the south, as throughout the years they had developed an appreciation and love for southern culture.

After they came for a visit, they said “We were blown away by the beauty of Albemarle Plantation. Everything was so manicured and in bloom.” The fact that AP had two dining options on-site was also a big plus. The family looked at a home in the Riverwood neighborhood and fell in love. They found the perfect family home for them and right within their budget, too. They packed up their belongings on Long Island and moved here in June of 2021.

Yara has shifted her focus from her 20-year career in Human Resources to Director of Home Affairs. Her primary role now is to homeschool their son JonCarlos who is 15 years old. She enjoys home decor and home transformations. She is part of AP’s Long Island Women’s Club, and when things get a bit more settled, she plans to join a few more clubs.

Michael works in sales for Helms Brothers Mercedes Benz in Bayside, New York, and is one of the top sales consultants in the field. He still travels back to New York on a regular basis, but it allows him to visit with his parents. Michael is a big sports buff. So far, he has only had the opportunity to try his hand at bocce, but when time allows, he hopes to get more involved with many of the club offerings here at AP.

If you see Michael, Yara, Sofia, or JonCarlos, be sure to give them a friendly Albemarle Plantation wave.
