WHO'S NEW: Jason Slusher and Meredith Timberlake

by JoAnne Muzzulin

Jason Slusher and Meredith Timberlake found their way to Hertford via an interesting path. They are not retirees; in fact, they are young professionals with very interesting careers, but they have ties to the area.

Meredith’s parents had been vacationing and taking getaway weekends in the Edenton area for many years. They loved it so much, they eventually retired to Edenton. Meredith had become familiar with the area and really loved it, too. A city girl, she had lived in Richmond her whole life and met Jason while living there. They were happy in Richmond, but decided it was time to be a little closer to her parents. Besides, this area also appealed to them a lot. And, as it turns out, Jason and Meredith have dear friends who relocated many years ago to Hertford from Roanoke, Virginia, where Jason grew up. They are avid sailors, just like Jason and Meredith.

Jason has long been a sailor, having learned to sail a catamaran on western Virginia lakes. Meredith only learned to sail since she met Jason, but she loves it just as much. When they began their search for a home, they were hoping to live on the Albemarle Sound waterfront. They looked at many waterfront properties, but found most Sound-side locations were just too windy for them to enjoy being outside. So, their search continued.

A gated community was not where they expected to land their dream home, but when their other searches did not yield an appropriate waterfront property where they could dock their 27-foot Erickson sailboat, Albemarle Plantation seemed to provide the missing piece of their puzzle. The Plantation offered not only a beautiful and safe environment, it also had the jackpot—an on-site marina with an attentive dockmaster.

Both are still working full time in their respective careers. Meredith, although she has a degree in Studio Art and Art History and previously worked as the Senior Exhibits Director for the Children’s Museum of Richmond, is now the Event Specialist for the Virginia Region of the American Red Cross. She plans and organizes fundraisers for seven chapters of the Red Cross throughout Virginia and can be deployed if necessary to national disaster areas. Gratefully, she did not need to go to Florida this year. Although in the event world now, Meredith’s love of art is evident, as their home boasts a vast array of original art, including a painting that hangs proudly above the fireplace, a work by Meredith’s own father, Jim Timberlake.

Jason is employed by Certainteed, a building-materials manufacturer. His territory is the Mid-Atlantic (Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina), which has enabled him to explore these states in his work travels. Jason and Meredith happily discovered North Carolina to be an affordable state in which to live

As their busy schedules permit, Jason and Meredith are enjoying AP’s amenities, meeting new neighbors, and continuing to discover all AP has to offer. And they consider the relaxed and quiet life here a welcome change from the stress and noise of the city.

Now that they are settled in their home with Mystery, Meredith’s cat, Jason can look forward to sailing the 27-foot Erickson from the Chesapeake down to the AP Marina, getting some new sails, and being on the water throughout the fall.

Welcome Meredith and Jason!
