WHO’S NEW Chris and Megan East
by JoAnne Muzzulin
Within six months of meeting each other at Chero’s in Edenton, Chris proposed to Megan, and they were married nine months later. They now have been married almost nine years and have two sons, Zakkari, four years old, and Lake, two.
Megan, currently a stayat-home mom, is originally from Perquimans County and still loves it here, especially with lots of family nearby. She was the first female volunteer fireman at the Bethel Fire Department—and she is very proud of being a “fireman.”
Chris grew up in a small town about twelve miles from Mt. Airy in Stokes County, North Carolina. Chris’s work brought him to eastern North Carolina where he managed the largest fish farm on the east coast down in Roper, raising all-natural catfish. Concerned about economic and education conditions in the area, he decided to run for a seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives, but lost.
He currently is employed by Anthem Inc., a health insurer. He has been its National Call Center Manager of two locations (Chesapeake and Las Vegas) for five years. The family had been living in Chesapeake, convenient to Chris’ work, but when they wanted to purchase a home, they looked again at Megan’s hometown and found it to be so much more affordable. And when they discovered Albemarle Plantation, they immediately knew they wanted this type of community for their growing family. Chris says he doesn’t necessarily like the daily commute, but when he comes home and drives through the gate, it’s all worth it.
Drawn to the amenities and the safe environment, they were happy to find a perfect home for their growing family. Chris would like to learn to play golf and appreciates the amenities for the children, as well. He has been a lifelong football fan and an Atlanta Falcons supporter for over 25 years. Megan likes fishing, especially for bass, yellow bellies, and catfish, which she says are the fighters and give the sport the challenge. Megan enjoys the older-style country music, as well as rock. She is also very family-oriented. Her family has frequent dinners and gatherings that allow time for the family to mingle.
Chris and Megan love it here, but also hope to travel as their family gets a little older. Their goal of visiting all 50 states is about 50% complete.
