POLISH THE BRASS UPDATE: Dockside Deck Done!
After a short winter break, work continues in the community on a number of projects focused on further enhancing the look of the place. After a recent tour of Albemarle Plantation focusing on “first impressions,” a list of to-do items was compiled. From this list, the following have been completed to date this year:
- Community Center fitness room walls were re-painted, windows cleaned, and fitness equipment touched up.
- Side tables at Dockside were cleaned and re-painted; screening repaired (by our maintenance chief, Charlie Pasquale).
- Perry’s Cove boat ramp area has new rope strung between the existing posts.
In addition, our fine maintenance crew has been working on repainting signs like the Marina Park sign in front of Dockside. And that’s just the start.
But this year the BIG FOCUS of a dedicated band of volunteers ably led by Bob Petersen has been the Dockside deck refurbishment. The project followed extensive work last year in repainting Dockside internally and externally, including the installation of sound-proofing boards by Steve Pomp and his team.
However, the deck project was way more than just “polishing.” Having tackled the big task of re-decking last year, Bob’s building inspector-approved deck railing design began to take shape. His loyal band listened carefully to instructions at each construction stage and stuck to the task over several weeks. A number of unforeseen challenges were identified and overcome, and the result is a bright new set of railings with a distinctly nautical feel in keeping with the image of Dockside. Now, the railings are complete with low-voltage LED down lighting to enhance the after-dusk ambiance and appeal.
Bob and AP President, Jock Muir, thanked all the volunteers who contributed to this wonderful accomplishment at a pizza evening held recently at Dockside in recognition of their hard work.
