OYC NEWS: The Boat Float

Sep 12, 2023 | Life at Albemarle Plantation

On Sunday, July 30th, some OYC members enjoyed a “spur of the moment” Boat Float on the Yeopim River. What is a Boat Float? It’s simple. OYC members who desire to get their boat out and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the water with some friends can tie up with some other boats and play in the water with water toys and sunshine. BYO food and beverages for self-consumption or to share…. No pressure.

On this day, hosts Elana and Jock Muir offered to be the anchor boat, and those that arrived rafted up to My Girl. This particular Sunday offered sunshine, calm seas, a steady, comfortable breeze, and reduced humidity. The water was perfect, and the company entertaining, a great way to while away a Sunday afternoon. The location was halfway up the Yeopim River in a well protected cove in about six feet of water.

OYC hopes to have a few more of these spontaneous events before the boating season ends. Anyone interested may initiate a Boat Float on any of the many local waterways. Be on the lookout for more On-the-Water adventures that we will try to keep to weekends so as to include our working members and guests.
