One of the activities offered as a member of the OYC is our Kayaking Group. We do 12 to 15 paddles every year on a variety of creeks, rivers, and streams within a short drive of the Plantation. It is amazing how diverse the scenery and wildlife viewing can be in eastern NC.
Our paddles typically last two hours and are for all skill levels. Afterwards, we all have lunch at a local restaurant or pack a lunch and have a picnic. It’s a great way to meet people and make new friends. We practice safety first and work together to help each other get in and out of our boats.
The club owns two trailers with a capacity of 18 kayaks or canoes. Availability is on a first come basis. We welcome people who can tow the trailers as well as help load and unload the kayaks. Kayaking is a very popular tradition at the OYC. If you would like to try kayaking for the first time, we have kayaks available at the marina for your use. We will be happy to take you out and show you the ropes and we hope to see you on one of our trips!
