“I can’t stop drinking the coffee. I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing, and the walking, and the words-putting-into-sentences doing.”- Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

Over 80 percent of the adult population in the United States are reported coffee drinkers. The fact that more than four out of five people in the U.S. drink coffee is certainly a sign that it’s loved and cherished by many.  The only thing better than taking that first sip is indulging while sitting in your favorite coffee shop.  Here are a few of our favorites on the Inner Banks:

The Edenton Coffee House:  What’s better than a cup of fresh-brewed coffee, iced coffee or espresso drink?  Pairing it with gingerbread, cookies, a slice of cake or a delicious pastry!  Edenton Coffee House also features a wonderful selection of teas and fruit smoothies. The lunch counter serves a variety of hot and cold sandwiches.  Some evenings you may even get lucky enough to catch a local musician and even area artisans selling their homemade items!

Some evenings especially Fridays, the Coffee House stays open until 9 pm with musical performances. Area artisans can be found with handmade items.

Muddy Waters Coffeehouse: Atmosphere is everything and this funky little café sure does have it!  There is something for absolutely everyone here.  From coffee and super fun espresso creations to smoothies and shakes and even recently added beer and wine!  Not to mention the incredible baked goods!  You can even purchase coffee beans in many of their original flavors to take home!

The SweetEasy: Located in the heart of Elizabeth City, this gem definitely has out hearts!   There’s nothing like walking into a coffee shop, picking up a good book, and letting yourself escape reality for a while… That’s exactly what you can do at The SweetEasy.  The shelves lining the walls are filled with books for your enjoyment.  And speaking of enjoyment, the staff is friendly and take pride in every creation they prepare.  From lattes and coffee to smoothies and sweets, they really have it all.

Brew 2 Rescue: Coffee with a cause; what could be better than that?!  Brew 2 Rescue got its name because the proceeds of each cup of coffee go to raise money and awareness to the plight of Human trafficking and to help those who have been rescued.  That is reason enough to buy a cup.  Not to mention, the coffee is really good and the food is delicious!  They have an award winning Sweet Potato Biscuit with a variety of available breakfast treats as well as soups and sandwiches. T-shirts, wrist bands and other jewelry are also available in support of the cause as well.  So grab some swag while you are there too!
