When Elwood “Woody” Perry began his career in real estate and development nearly 50 years ago, he quickly found success due to his affinity for developing, curating expert teams, and understanding what people want in a community and in a home. His roots with Albemarle Plantation go deep.

As one of the community’s original developers, he began acquiring the land that is now Albemarle Plantation in 1986. A natural-born place-maker, Woody had a bold vision for the community—one that would chart its path as a one-of-a-kind waterfront haven. As
the primary developer during those formative years, he and his partners laid the firm foundation upon which the community has been built. For 18 years, he presided over and was actively involved in making Albemarle Plantation both successful in the market and beloved by its residents.

Part of what inspired his initial vision for Albemarle Plantation was his own upbringing and early career in the region. He was born in Edenton and was raised in both Hertford and Edenton. After college, he came back to the area, married, and enjoyed living in both Hertford and Elizabeth City for a time. He has a deep understanding of this special area of the country and what attracts so many people to it. He has developed 14 successful communities from Richmond to Hertford—ranging from family neighborhoods to bespoke equestrian estate living. Now, Woody has returned to Albemarle Plantation with business partner and successful real estate industry veteran, John Linton, to undertake new phases of development.

John’s experience in the industry is multi-faceted. He has worked as in-house counsel and land acquisition manager for a top national builder, and in commercial and residential development for a myriad successful projects across the United States. John was first introduced to Woody through a family friend and quickly saw that he was a different kind of developer, and an exceptional mentor, too.

John puts it this way: “Woody is driven, and he cares about doing what’s right. There are sound business reasons for new development at Albemarle Plantation, but for Woody, it’s truly about completing the plan he had for this community. He had a vision that was planted 40 years ago, and most of it is complete. It’s a great monument to his ethic as a developer to do right by this community.”

John’s unique experience in real estate coupled with his legal and managerial background, converge with Woody’s lifetime of real estate expertise and deep personal connection to Albemarle Plantation.

The team has eagerly begun this capstone endeavor: completing a significant new chapter at Albemarle Plantation that will create new homes, opportunities, and properties for all those who love this one-of-a-kind Inner Banks lifestyle.
