For the residents of Albemarle Plantation, every day is like living in a resort— from the vast waters of the pristine Albemarle Sound to the world-class golf and resort amenities, every day brings new possibilities for something fun to do. And that is especially important when your grandchildren visit. Below are some fun spots in our area that kids of all ages will love. Hip-Hip-Hooray, let the fun begin!
When those bundles of energy are around it can be difficult to think of activities that keep them entertained and maybe even tire them out. We are here to help! Within our gates we have some great amenities to get you started.
Walking and biking throughout the community is a great way to get exercise, fresh air and to connect with your grandchildren. Or perhaps they enjoy gardening. The Community Garden Area not only lets them play in the dirt, but you can also teach them about a plant’s journey from seed to fruit. Learn about a game they like, and teach them a game you like, maybe it’s golfing at the Sound Golf Links, playing bocce ball, or tennis. Take them boating, kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding on our picturesque waters.
Outside the community there are several options in our area to help you keep them occupied even if the weather doesn’t want to cooperate.
Taylor Theatre – The beautifully preserved and renovated historic theatre offers up blockbuster and indie films, and concessions like White Castle Cheeseburgers, Super Pretzels and Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream, candy, popcorn, fountain sodas and alcoholic drinks.
Woodard’s Pharmacy – This quintessential small-town pharmacy takes you back in time with hand squeezed drinks and double dip ice cream. A great stop when you are walking around town or heading down to waterfront.
Colonial Waterfront Park – Set on the historic waterfront in downtown Edenton and offers something for everyone. From the playground to the historic Penelope Barker House and iconic Roanoke River Lighthouse, the whole family is sure to enjoy this serene setting and beautiful view.
Dismal Swamp State Park – Just 40 minutes up the road is the largest remaining swamp in the eastern United States, the Great Dismal Swamp. This area features unique plant and wildlife, as well as a rich cultural history that intertwines with George Washington, the Underground Railroad, and Prohibition. The 22-mile Dismal Swamp Canal is a popular paddling destination or walk along the 2000-foot boardwalk into this glorious paradise.
Elizabeth City Fun Junktion Park – This great park offers plenty of options for all ages from the disc golf course to the skate park, basketball courts, driving range and even a splash pad.
