GOLF NEWS 2018: Ladies Member-Guest

Nov 10, 2018 | Albemarle News and Events

The 2018 edition of the Ladies Member-Guest featured eight member-guest teams supplemented by three member-member teams in their own flight. Of note among the guests were former members Vickie McCool and Jennifer Jones, and four Tar Heel Gals: Moonie Sloan, Rosemary Robertson, Bobbie Armstrong, and Janice Huff (see article on Tar Heel Gals on page 6 of the Soundings October issue).

September 28 began with a full day of practice rounds followed by Ladies Night Out with pizza and vino at Dockside. When the fun died down, Sound Golf Links Professional Lee Duncan tried his best to explain the next day’s complicated format.

Before launching the competition, the gals gathered under the Pavilion to be treated to a potluck break-fast of eggs, scones, muffins, and pastries, which they shared with some of the grounds crew attracted, no doubt, by the aroma of fresh-baked goods. Thanks to Laura and Billy Rowell and their connections, the ladies also received a thermal goodie bag filled with tees, a water-filtering bottle, a ball mark and cookies.

After taking a group photo and receiving final instructions from Lee Duncan, the ladies were off to their designated tees. To add spice to the tournament, the day’s competition was broken up into three segments: best ball net on holes 1 through 6; captain’s choice scramble on holes 7 through 12; and modified alternate shot on holes 13 through 18.

After the golf, the ladies gathered under the Pavilion for “poptails” (Prosecco and popsicle), followed by putting and chipping contests. After all the fun, the gals had a few hours to freshen up and meet at the Clubhouse for dinner and awards. Lee had done a good job of keeping the scoreboard hidden from view, but now it was time to reveal the winners.
