Fitness at the Community Center

by Jim Byron

Our Community Center is busy with lots of residents taking advantage of the fitness options offered there. Here are some statistics on current exercise activity in the two main areas for indoor exercise.

CYPRESS ROOM

There are 20 exercise classes weekly. They cover a wide range of activities, from improving flexibility to building cardio strength. The classes are conducted by resident team leaders and/or certified trainers. There are 375 to 425 participants in these classes monthly, and some residents take multiple classes. The current list of exercise classes and activities includes:

  • 20/20/20 Exercise Aerobics (Low Impact)
  • Back to Youth (Tai Chi)
  • The Bar Method Essentrics (two levels)
  • Line Dancing (two levels)
  • Pilates
  • Ping Pong
  • Woman’s Fitness
  • Yoga

EXERCISE ROOM

The equipment in the Community Center’s large exercise room covers multiple workout needs. There are 12 workout stations for cardio or strength training, in addition to a full array of hand weights. The equip
ment includes treadmills, stationery bikes, elliptical trainers, and various weight stations. The exercise room has a very dedicated following. There are 350 to 390 sign-ins each month, some starting as early as 6 a.m. And there is a steady flow all day, with some making staying fit a couples’ event. The exercise room is open whenever the Center is open. Just drop in. A special thank you to the Community Manager, Tara Taylor, who keeps things running smoothly at the Center so that residents may participate in these fitness and fun activities. Her efforts and care are appreciated. The options for exercise are many here in the Plantation. There is something for everyone.
