Fall Home Décor Trends

Sep 23, 2020 | Home

Fall has always been full of warm and cozy memories for most of us.  While comfy sweaters and hot cocoa are exciting, fall décor is what really gets us in the mood!   Adding festive touches to our living spaces feels even more important than ever this year since there’s a new focus on the home. We will just have to focus a lot more on decor and holiday decorating and creating festive backdrops for our inevitable virtual gatherings!

Since we can’t travel too far outside our front doors, why not make the most of the outdoor space we do have?!  During this time of social distancing, you can expect to see more elaborate outdoor displays that friends and neighbors can enjoy (from a distance!) too.  Outdoor lights aren’t just for Christmas anymore!  Orange and white lights are perfect autumn accents to your porch or walkway.  Colorful pumpkins and gourds can be used to line the front porch steps for a pumpkin patch appeal.  And don’t forget the chrysanthemums; the perfect finishing to touch to any fall landscape.

Orange, red, and yellow are the conventional fall colors, but 2020 has us feeling a little moody and the fall décor trends reflect just that!  Richer, moodier hues are being used this year to create unexpected color combinations. Rust, olive green, and navy our some of the popular shades for the season. Although these colors might not be classically fall, they feel appropriate for the season when used in deeper shades with warm undertones.

As the weather turns colder, cozy fabrics are a fall decor must-have. Swap out summery lightweight textiles for fabrics that are thicker, fuzzier, and fluffier! Consider how you can swap out or layer in throw blankets, pillows, window treatments, and upholstered furniture with a softer feel and more visual weight. Fabrics such as sherpa, velvet, leather, and cashmere just feel like fall!

The great outdoors can provide some of the best inspiration for fall decorating ideas.  Natural elements from outside are perfect (and free) to add to a homemade arrangement. Nature sets the tone for the season’s color palette and you don’t even have to venture out to the craft store to find the latest materials.  They’re in your front yard! Gather natural elements from your own yard to place inside vases, weave into a garland, or create a fall centerpiece for your table.  Tree branches, moss and pinecones are easy to find and offer an abundance of fall decorating ideas!
