Create a Winter Wonderland in Your Home

There are few things more magical than the feeling you get when your home is decorated for the holidays.  Why limit your décor to just Thanksgiving and Christmas when you can enjoy the ambiance through the whole winter even after the holidays have passed.  Take a detour from the usual heavy green and red holiday decorations this year and incorporate your decorations for longer!  Keep the standard decorations boxed up and think snow!

A wintry theme is a fresh way to decorate without being holiday specific. Imagine a snow-covered hill, all white and silver and…blue! Keep your colors subtle and blend them in with the rest of your décor for a look you can enjoy all season!

Here are some tips to create a fresh winter wonderland without the traditional Christmas emphasis.  Try collecting tree ornaments in silver, white, clear or blue. Try displaying them on a white tablecloth or filling a large clear glass vase, bowl, or glass tray with them. Mix shiny ornaments with satin or glitter finishes and mix up the sizes for a fun visual effect!

Ditch the traditional fresh cut tree for one that last longer and stays current!  Choose an artificial holiday tree in white or silver and decorate it with blue, white, or silver ornaments for an icy look. Add strings of shiny silver beads, along with white and blue lights.

A quick and easy way to upgrade your regular living room to a winter wonderland is to change out your throw pillows, blankets, and area rugs for fluffy white ones. Add silver or white ribbon, garlands, strings of beads, or crystal icicles to door frames, stair railings and chandeliers.  Jack Frost will be proud for sure!

Make the Griswold Family proud and use lots and lots of white and blue holiday lights, indoors and out.  Never underestimate the ambiance lighting can make.  The whites and blues will create the feeling of a calming winter retreat complete with fuzzy socks and cocoa!

Speaking of cocoa; holiday scents are half the experience, right?!   Keep the feel warm and inviting with candles and appetizing scents of comforting vanilla and spice.  Add a bright fire in the fireplace and warm beverages like cider, cocoa, or sangria for a festive atmosphere.
