Oct 10, 2021 | Area Info, Food & Drink

Anyone that’s been in North Carolina very long knows that the wine and beer scene is booming, and as a result, it’s easier than ever to raise a glass and toast a fantastic day with a home-grown brew or delicious vintage of coastal wine.

With a wealth of favorite NC breweries and established local vineyards to choose from, you are sure to find a delectable libation for any palate. The beers and wines of the Outer and Inner Banks of North Carolina in general are distinctive, delicious and are gaining acclaim. Here are a few of our favorite breweries and vineyards within a 2-hour radius:

Ghost Harbor Brewing Company. Enjoy a great craft beer experience with family, friends, and the community at Elizabeth City’s first brewery.

Weeping Radish Farm Brewery. Visitors will delight in German-inspired brews and fantastic cuisine. The Weeping Radish has brewed beer according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516 which states that beer must be brewed using only four ingredients: Hops, Malt, Yeast, and Water. No additives, chemicals, or preservatives may be used. The Weeping Radish maintains those high standards today and arguably started the trend of microbrewering and is in fact the oldest microbrewery in the entire state of North Carolina.

Outer Banks Brewing Station. Known as the first wind powered brewery in the United States, the Brewing Station offers quality beer and exceptional coastal fare. With its backyard, playground, live music, specialty drinks and beers, there is certainly something for the whole family.

Sanctuary Vineyards. Enjoy daily tastings, as well as evening events with live music and charcuterie at Sanctuary Vineyards, a quaint seaside farm producing acclaimed wines like a full-bodied Bordeaux style to a summer wine like Wild Pony White. Be sure to stop in for a tour.

We are only scratching the surface here of opportunities to wet your whistle. From Duck to Manteo, travelers have choices like The Beer Garden, Northern Outer Banks Brewing Company, the Vineyards on the Scuppernong, and the Lost Colony Brewery and Café. Have fun exploring and as always, stay safe!
