This year’s theme— Thank You for Giving Back —exemplifies what the Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club (APWC) has been all about these many years. Chair Phyllis Calvano and her committee (Karen Beck, Dodie Colyer, Mary Ann Eichenlaub, Angela Ermi, Nancy Fisher, Sue Glancy, Linda Kruegel, Trish Ludwig, Lynn Tucker, and Cindy Williams) did an outstanding job designing the visual displays reflecting the various recipients of our charitable endeavors. Big Thanks to Hertford Printing and Signs—a woman-owned business—that donated the printing of those posters and the flyers.

Because of some very generous and supportive merchants, plus our own residents who contributed, there were 46 baskets up for grabs. The items included everything from spa treatments to restaurant coupons, sports memorabilia, art, wine, food, baby items, and money trees, and definitely offered something to tempt every single one of the 128 people who attended.

The Fundraising Committee, and in particular Nancy Fisher and Karen Beck, solicited and received merchandise and gift certificates from over 90 merchants in Elizabeth City, Edenton, and Hertford, as well as many of our own talented residents. Thank you too to Terri Chapin who volunteered to assist on game day. Another Big Thank You goes to Biggs Cadillac-Buick-GMC, Dixon and Thompson Law PLLC, Sears Hometown Store in Elizabeth City, and the Miller Chiropractic Group for their cash donations. And then there was the 50/50 raffle, too!

One final Big Thank You to the staff at the AP Clubhouse, in particular to Chef Bobby Allen, Danielle Bateman, and Mandy Hooker for all their hard work.

Participants consumed boxed lunches and played every type of game imaginable. And the APWC raised over $2,300 for high school scholarships, the Women-In-Transition grant program, girls’ softball and various other programs that benefit our community.
