AP Women’s Club: 20th Anniversary Celebration
The Albemarle Plantation Women’s Club proudly celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the Clubhouse on December 11th with 70 members present. The club’s very first president, Cam Rivard, was on hand along with six other past presidents, some of whom served as Vice President before their Presidency. In order as they appear in the photo: Lynette Blackman (two years), Evelyn Higerd (two years), Patty Tetlow (four years), Penny Byrd (three years), Cam Rivard (two years) and Anne Lankford (four years). Not pictured: Charlene Finamore (four years).
The 2019 President, Susan Burgess, addressed the members and reminded everyone about another successful year of fundraising and charitable giving in the local communities. This includes the collection campaign for baby supplies and school supplies as well as scholarships to graduating Perquimans County High School seniors and grants to women whose lives are in transition. She also recapped the variety of experiences the members have shared throughout the year.
Susan was followed by Penny Byrd, Documentary Historian, who spoke about the history of the club’s logo, plus the challenge of photographing/documenting the club’s events and trips off-site. She also encouraged all the new members to get involved as we move into our third decade.
Penny presented Susan Burgess with six roses representing her six years of service in the same decade (two each for serving as secretary, vice president and then president).
After the business meeting, the Program Committee challenged the room with two games. There was a delicious lunch and everyone went home with a gift of their very own mums.
