5 Things To Do This Holiday Season Around Albemarle Plantation

“Nothing says holidays, like a cheese log.”- Ellen DeGeneres

While we agree with Ellen 100%; we also believe that there are plenty of other indicators that the holidays are approaching!  The weather is cooling down, the lights are coming out and all kinds of fun activities are happening around Albemarle Plantation!  Here are a few to get you in the spirit:

Few things can get you feeling that festive flare faster than seeing your town covered in holiday lights and decorations! After you’ve had your fill of turkey dinner…and your in-laws, head out to the official “lighting of the holiday lights” on Main Street in downtown Elizabeth City.  Held Friday November 23rd from 6-8 pm; the event will feature hay/sleigh rides, hot cocoa, caroling, and visit from Santa and so much more!

Once the town has been decorated, it’ll be time to get to work decking the halls of your own home!  Get a jump start with a Designer’s Workshop at the Museum of the Albemarle.  Receive help from the experts designing and creating holiday decorations for your home or to gift!  Cost is $45 and includes admission and a catered lunch!

Also at The Museum of the Albemarle, on December 1st from 9am-4pm, you can get lost in holiday history while watching the performance of ‘The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree’, a historical holiday story written by Gloria Houston and set in the Appalachian Mountains during World War 1.  Not only that, there will be showings of the Polar Express, carriage and pony rides, crafts and live music.  Something for absolutely everyone!

Come check out the Lighted Boat Parade at the waterfront in downtown Elizabeth City on December 7th at 10 pm.  It will be a magical event with a parade of festive boats decorated to the max!  Mariner’s Wharf Park will be decked out as a Winter Wonderland and children and adults alike will receive red and green glow sticks to light up the night!!

There is something magical about watching your favorite Christmas stories come to life onstage.  This year at the Rocky Hock Playhouse in Edenton, there are two amazing performances to choose from to get you in the spirit. Christ the Savior is Born is being performed from now until December 18th and a musical version of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol will be live December 13-16.

With all the fun happenings in the area, there is no excuse to be a scrooge!  So, grab your hot cocoa and start filling up your calendar!
