Described as the prettiest small town in the South, Edenton is North Carolina’s beautifully preserved first colonial capital. This coastal community is a small town at heart with a deeply rich history and plenty of personality sure to charm any visitor.  And, the best part is it neighbors us at Albemarle Plantation.

Blending indigenous and colonial influences, Edenton, served as a major port, was the first colonial capital of North Carolina from 1722 to 1743. Largely untouched by the Civil War, its architecture dates to pre-colonial times, with its 1767 Chowan County Courthouse considered by many to be the finest example of Georgian architecture in the South. Other popular historic sites include the 1886 Roanoke River Lighthouse, the Cotton Mill Village, and the 1758 Cupola House.
