Kenny’s luck had to run out sometime…. He must have known it was going to be this year as he had ordered nice golf umbrellas for everyone, well ahead of time!
With the storm ‘Joaquin’ looming off the coast and a cold front stalling as a consequence, the Member Guest event (October 1-3, 2015) was guaranteed to be wet… And my, it was wet on Friday, the first day of competition. But in the spirit of never say die, Kenny and Mike (Horton) made some “course corrections” and approximately one hundred golfers braved the elements and played the modified course. Though challenging, everyone who participated had fun and was encouraged by the knowledge that however bad the conditions, there was a good meal and a beverage back at the Clubhouse on their return.
The second day dawned clear and though the course was still saturated, everyone was able to play a slightly longer ‘track’, again set up by Kenny and Mike. The Sound Golf Links looked so much better in the sunshine and the golfers were relieved that they could play without their new umbrellas and their wet gear. More fun was had by all!
That evening, members hosted their guests at the evening Gala Dinner. It had to be held in the Clubhouse due to the wet conditions but the Clubhouse kitchen and wait staff came through for us and we all had a great meal. Chef Jim, Carlette and their entire staff must be congratulated for this last minute restaging. A scallop station and the “finger-licking” pork chops stole the show!
Kenny, as MC, thanked everyone for their stoic participation and awarded the prizes to the closest to the pin and the flight winners and finally the overall winners, Art Edwards and his guest, Steve Schmitter.
Kenny is already taking reservations for Member Guest 2016 so don’t wait to get on the list! Sunshine and great course conditions have been ordered.
Thanks to Kenny, Mike and their staffs for a great tournament in very challenging circumstances.
