ALBEMARLE CHORALE PRESENTS: “Gift of Light” Concert

May 18, 2018 | About Albemarle, Albemarle News and Events

Albemarle Chorale’s held their first concert of the spring season on Sunday, April 29.  This year’s concert is presented in loving memory of Leah Mason Jonson, one of the Chorale’s founding members who passed away earlier this year. Leah, a lover of music and an Albemarle Plantation resident, made a huge contribution to the musical life of our community and worked tirelessly to make her dream of singing with a community choral association become a reality.

The program, entitled “Gift of Light,” features the works of Gabriel Fauré. The first portion of the program is his Requiem Mass, a beautifully lyrical piece focusing on eternal rest and consolation. Also known as “Lullaby for Eternal Rest,” the Requiem features both soprano and baritone soloists. After intermission, another of Fauré’s works, “The Canticle of Jean Racine,” will be performed, as well as a variety of more familiar anthems, including “Beautiful Savior” and “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place.” Included is modern arranger David Rudder’s version of the old favorite, “The Lord Is My Shepherd.”

The Albemarle Chorale is led by music director Lynwood Winslow and accompanied by Michael Morgan. Concerts are free, but donations are greatly appreciated. New members experienced in choral singing are always welcome.
