Albemarle Sound joins Great Waters Movement

- March 23, 2011 3:30pm

You drink it. You bathe with it. You play in it. You cook with it. How often do you stop and think about it? The National Wildlife Federation works across the country to protect this life-sustaining resource.

We're proud to inform you that Albemarle Sound has joined the America’s Great Waters Coalition (AGWC), the fresh and salt water advocacy organization, which was founded and built by The National Wildlife Federation.  The AGWC are organizing all major bodies of water in the United States to work together for the maintaining and preservation of water quality.  There are 19 great waters representing approximately 35 states to ensure a healthy Gulf ecosystem.

Along with Albemarle Sound, the others joining AGWC are the Delaware River, Ohio River, Missouri River, Colorado River, Rio Grande and Galveston Bay. They join the original 10 designees Great Lakes, Gulf of Maine, Lake Champlain, Chesapeake Bay, Puget Sound, San Francisco Bay, Coastal Louisiana, Everglades, Mississippi River and Long Island Sound.

To read all the local activities that are going on to protect our beautiful Albemarle Sound, take at look at the North Carolina Wildlife Federation website.
