Elizabeth City is known world wide as the Harbor of Hospitality. Situated on the Pasquotank River where the waters open and begin to widen out on course to the Albemarle Sound. A waterfront community, founded in 1793, Elizabeth City served as an economic value to the Albemarle region in 1805 when the Dismal Swamp Canal was completed. The Canal was a vital link between the sounds and rivers of northeastern North Carolina to the port of Norfolk, allowing planters and lumber companies a safe and quick way to transport their goods to market.

Today, the town's revitalized waterfront has become a favorite stop for the thousands of pleasure cruisers on the Intracoastal. Dock your boat for up to 48 hours at the complimentary city docks, tour the NEW Museum of the Albemarle's – featuring an exhibit on the nearby Coast Guard aviation base or sightsee around town. In the afternoon, the Rose Buddy wine and cheese, welcomes all the visiting cruisers and passes our roses to the “First Mates”. Elizabeth City is filled to overflowing with small town hospitality.
